a-ha's UK singles chart position

Butterfly Butterfly (The Last Hurrah) just made it on to the UK top 100 singles chart at position 98. Oh dear.

Mid Week Chart

.... and a-ha are at number....

Oh, they are not on the top 40. I thought the volume of CDs might be sufficient. I was wrong. Still, there should be no surprise - there was zero promotion to support the release as always.

Why the decision to release the last single 25 years after the 1985 Take on me UK release? No one has noticed. I guess the album will score better as it will have some promotion.

Where are the downloads?

I think this battle for the charts will be won or lost on the strength of CD single sales.

There is no position on the iTunes chart currently.

CD Singles
HMV - number 1
Amazon - number 2

Fingers crossed that the volume of CDS being shifted is high.

It looks like any promotion will be in support of the album rather than the single.

Available Now

The single is now available on 2 track CD single or download. To be honest, a top 20 placement would be a real success in this day and age. I will be waiting for the mid-week chart with crossed fingers.

Remember to keep an eye out for a-ha promotion. There will be live music from a-ha on Ken Bruce, Radio 2 towards the end of the month.

1 day to go!

Just one day left till the single is available in the UK. After 62 days on Amazon.co.uk's CD single chart, it climbs back up yet again. Currently at number 6.

Fly Butterfly Fly!

Only 5 days till a-ha's final single is released. Pre-order now or buy it on either CD or download from the 20th of September.

Pre-Order on iTunes

Now available to pre-order from iTunes UK.

There is currently a 2 track Butterfly Butterfly (The Last Hurrah) available. It would be nice to see an E.P. appear too. If there is no extra material (Question of lust radio cover, Manmade lake or recent live tracks... Dream myself alive) maybe the video for Butterfly or something. There needs to be a reason for people to buy the CD and download.

iTunes Digital EP (Germany) + CD Single

Here is the tracklisting for the German digital EP of Butterfly Butterfly (The Last Hurrah) release July 30th

1. Butterfly Butterfly (The Last Hurrah) - Album Version
2. Butterfly Butterfly (The Last Hurrah) - Steve Osbourne Version
3. The Sun Always Shines On TV - Album Version
4. Hunting High And Low - Album Version
5. Stay On These Roads - Video

I hope the UK iTunes EP will be better than this. Why release more stuff everyone already has when there are other options available. Perhaps some of the alternative mixes from Foot Of The Mountain album or live recordings from last years Radio 2 set - I'm thinking the Depeche Mode cover.

The CD single is also available in Germany and is presumably the same as the forthcoming UK release.

Number One - well Sort of

The new single is number one on Amazon.co.uk pre-order cd singles. This is a good start and could prove that this is where the record companies slipped up with releases since Analogue. A CD single release could prove important.

Buy it from Amazon

Buy it from HMV

The single seems to be the sixth most popular pre-release single on HMV online (also good news).
